Chapter 3: Drunk
Donquixote Doflamingo was sited on the desk of his studio in the royal chamber and was looking at a thick book. The curtains were shut and a very somber melody was playing in the background. The young king was looking at the pages of the book but he was ignoring the words written on it entirely. If something was true about him was this: He was a master manipulator. That was his biggest talent. He would manipulate everyone from low life pirates to the top officials of the government itself. The same was for his crew. Yes, they were special to him. Yes, they were way more in his eyes than any other human that roamed this world. Still, at the end of the day, they were just puppets for him to play like anyone else was. He wasn't harsh on them though. He was actually very forgiving when his crew was involved. He accepted their failures and didn't berate them for those. If someone else, someone outside his crew failed him than he would make an example of them. He would make them curse the day they were born. Still, he didn't allow anyone to show their teeth at him. Well, that is not entirely true. He used to not allow that sort of behavior from anyone, but now he allowed it from his crew. Sometimes he wondered in private if he had become too lenient towards them, but that thought would escape his mind as soon as it came. He still didn't like that sort of behavior from anyone, but he allowed his crew to show it if they wanted. Maybe that wasn't because of affection but manipulation. His crew members were his most precious pawns and he needed to know what was going on inside their precious heads at all times for him to rein them in more easily.
Today though he was thinking about this more than usual. Brandish had shown to overstep herself more and more these past months. Brandish had always been an unruly child of course, but now she had becom more unruly than ever. It had all began to escalate when they had started to have these frequent sexual encounters. They had those encounters before also, they just have become more frequent now. Was it because they were so frequent now? - he asked himself. Or has she started to feel something and is expecting something more than those encounters.
Don't misunderstand the king's line of thought dear audience. What is troubling Doflamingo is not her behavior but her loyalty. When someone starts to feel strong feelings like the one the king was doubting Brandish was, that person's loyalty may shift from the person they serve to themselves, if their feelings are ignored long enough. What about our wicked king you ask? He didn't feel anything of the sort of course. Not because our Brandish wasn't beautiful or adorable in her own way. It was because those kinds of feelings were beneath him. What is love before the tremendous power of madness after all? As the king was pondering with these ideas on his head he heard someone knock on his door. As he was about to speak the door opened and a young man fell in front of him. Doflamingo looked at the man on the floor but didn't say anything. The smell of alcohol filled the room as if a strong wind was helping it pour in. The young man was drunk and this didn't surprise the king at all. Bacchus was always drunk. Bacchus - said Doflamingo softly. Hic! - came a sound from Bacchus direction but nothing else. The king smiled in the direction of the man that was still on his floor and then called the man's name again: Bacchus. I see you are taking good care of the castle’s canteen yet again. Hic! - responded the man on the floor. Yes - agreed Doflamingo as the man on the floor had asked him a question. Now though I need you to sober up and go do something for me. [Silence] I want you to take Brandish with you and make sure that this last shipment of weapons reaches the buyers without any troubles. [Silence] I heard the navy is surveying that area very thoroughly - the king continued. So that shipment may be in trouble if the proper precautions are not taken.
One hour later Bacchus completely drenched and now sober was trying to find Brandish. He had been completely asleep when the king had told him what his next mission was going to be. When the king had discovered that out though, he had lifted Bacchus on his shoulders and had brought him to the castle's pool where he had thrown him without thinking twice. He would have had drowned if the king hadn't dragged him out of it after he made sure that Bacchus was sober enough to hear his orders this time.
Damn - murmured Bacchus. Where is she? As he was about to turn left in the courtyard, he spotted her. She was walking toward the castle with a bored expression on her face. Hey, Brandish! - yelled Bacchus. Brandish stopped and turned on the direction of the shout. When she saw that the one calling her was Bacchus annoyance began to form in her face. What? - she snapped at him. Aren't you in a good mood today - said the drenched man with a grin? I am always in a good mood when you are involved Bacchus - responded Brandish with venom in her voice. Charming as ever. - answered back the young man now with an even bigger grin on his face. As soon as Bacchus was less than a meter away from her, her eye began to carefully inspect him, and annoyance became amused in Brandish's face. What happened to you, Bacchus? - said the green-haired girl. Did you finish all the booze in the castle and went to quench your thirst into the ocean? Very funny - answered the young man with a bit of annoyance in his voice now. Well - continued the green-haired girl. If you stopped me to ask for a towel than my answer is no, I don't have one.
After Bacchus had explained the reason for his visit, they made haste for the port. There they boarded the ship that was prepared for them and began charting a route to their destination. Brandish even though in theory was supposed to be the king's personal bodyguard, most of the time her usual duties where more those of an enforcer more than anything else. For this reason, she had her own squad - The Brandish Squad. Her squad was composed of all sorts of nasty low lives. After all her operations were usually scorched earth ones. If you are going to burn down a place does it really matter how civilized is the one lighting the match? My point is that when they arrived at the ship, they found her men there also, and that made her departure be a smoth one.
Now we will leave Brandish and Bacchus to go on their little adventure and move our attention to more important matters. If we have time, we will talk about that to. After all their little adventure happened to be quite an interesting and bumpy one.
